Research-based: how we put this comparison together. We haven’t tested or measured the noise of any of these toys. Every decibel (dB) figure below is the manufacturer’s own published number as of October 8, 2026, linked to the page it came from. Brands don’t all measure noise the same way (distance, setting, and environment usually aren’t disclosed), so treat these numbers as rough guides, not lab results. We’ve ordered products by published spec, not by our opinion.
Thin walls, roommates, family at home, or simply wanting privacy: noise is one of the most common worries first-time buyers have. The tricky part is that “whisper quiet” and “silent” are marketing words. A published decibel figure is more useful, as long as you know how to read it.
Short answer: By published specs, the lowest maximum noise figures in this list belong to LELO TIANI 3 and TIANI DUO, at 50 dB max (LELO TIANI 3; LELO TIANI DUO). Brands measure noise differently and rarely say how, so treat dB figures as a rough guide, and compare a maximum only with another maximum.
How to read a vibrator’s noise spec
Maximum vs. minimum: the key difference
Brands publish two very different kinds of noise number:
- Maximum noise level. LELO lists this on its spec sheets, e.g. “Max. noise level: 60 dB” for SONA 2 Cruise (LELO). It’s the most useful number for privacy, because it tells you the loudest the toy is supposed to get.
- Minimum noise level. Lovense lists this for Lush 4: “Minimum noise level 36 dB” (Lovense). It tells you how quiet the lowest setting is, not how loud the highest one is.
A minimum figure and a maximum figure can’t be compared directly. A toy with a 36 dB minimum isn’t necessarily quieter at full power than a toy with a 50 dB maximum.
What the numbers mean in everyday terms
Lovense’s own reference scale puts a whisper at about 30 dB, a library at about 40 dB, and a restaurant at about 80 dB (Lovense). Decibels are logarithmic, so a 10 dB increase is commonly described as sounding roughly twice as loud (U.S. National Park Service). That means the gap between 50 dB and 60 dB is bigger than it looks.

What a spec can’t tell you
- The measuring distance and setting. None of the brand pages we checked say how far away the measurement was taken.
- Rattle and contact noise. Toys can sound different when pressed against a surface or a body.
- Pitch. A low “rumbly” hum and a high-pitched buzz at the same dB can be noticed differently.

A closer look at each option
LELO TIANI 3: tied for the lowest published maximum here (50 dB)
TIANI 3 is a couples’ vibrator with one arm worn internally, one worn externally, and a wireless remote. LELO lists a maximum noise level of 50 dB, up to 2 hours of use, and a wireless range of up to 12 m (39 ft). Its SenseMotion remote changes intensity as you tilt or move it (LELO). It’s designed for partnered use, but LELO says it can also be used solo.
LELO TIANI DUO: also 50 dB, with two motors
TIANI DUO has two motors and 8 vibration settings. LELO lists its maximum noise level as 50 dB and up to 2 hours of use (LELO). For more on couples’ options, see Couples' sex toys for beginners: how to choose your first toy together.
LELO LILY 3: a small external option (60 dB max)
LILY 3 is a palm-sized mini vibrator. LELO lists 10 patterns, 45 g, up to 2 hours of use, and a maximum noise level of 60 dB. It’s made of “ABS with silicone soft touch coating” (LELO). LELO markets it as a “Silent Mini Vibrator” in the page title. Its published 60 dB maximum is the same as SONA 2 Cruise’s, so “silent” is marketing language.
LELO SIRI 3: responds to sound (under 60 dB max)
SIRI 3 uses what LELO calls SoundSense technology, with two microphones that turn music or voice into vibration patterns. LELO lists 8 settings and a maximum noise level under 60 dB (LELO). If you play music while using it, that may also help mask the toy’s sound. That’s our reasoning, not a LELO claim.
LELO SONA 2 Cruise: a sonic toy (60 dB max)
SONA 2 Cruise uses sonic pulses rather than conventional surface vibration. LELO lists a maximum noise level of 60 dB and up to 2 hours of use (LELO). LELO also sells the newer SONA 3 Cruise, which adds LELO app connectivity and lists a maximum noise level of under 60 dB (LELO SONA 3 Cruise).
Lovense Lush 4: low minimum, maximum not published
Lush 4 is an app-controlled wearable egg (for how it compares with We-Vibe’s Jive 2 on other specs, see Lovense vs We-Vibe: which app-controlled toy brand fits you?). Lovense lists a minimum noise level of 36 dB, which it describes as “quieter than the average library” (Lovense). Lovense doesn’t publish a maximum figure for Lush 4 on the pages we checked, so we can’t compare it with the LELO maximums above. On a separate page, Lovense lists the older Lush 3 at “a max volume of 43dB” (Lovense Lush 3), but that figure is for Lush 3 and doesn’t tell you Lush 4’s maximum.
We-Vibe Jive 2: marketed as “whisper quiet”
We-Vibe describes Jive 2’s vibrations as “ultra-powerful yet whisper quiet” but doesn’t publish a decibel figure on the product page (We-Vibe). We-Vibe doesn’t publish a dB figure for Jive 2, so we can’t compare its noise numerically. We’ve included it as a widely marketed wearable.
What about wands and bigger toys?
Larger toys often have bigger motors, and the product pages we checked for several wands and rabbits didn’t list a decibel figure. That includes LELO SMART WAND 2 (LELO), LELO ENIGMA (LELO), and Lovense Domi 2 (Lovense). If quiet is your top priority, a published maximum dB is a good tiebreaker.
Discreet vibrators: noise is only half of it
A quiet motor helps, but discretion also depends on size, controls, storage, and charging. Things the spec sheets do tell you:
- Travel locks. A lock stops a toy from switching on in a bag or drawer. We-Vibe lists a travel lock on Tango X (We-Vibe), and LELO’s FAQ describes a lock function on its toys (LELO FAQ).
- Size and weight. Small toys are easier to store out of sight. LELO lists LILY 3 at 45 g (LELO).
- Controls. A remote or app means nobody has to reach for buttons on the toy. LELO lists a wireless range of up to 12 m (39 ft) for the TIANI 3 remote (LELO), and Lush 4 and Jive 2 can be controlled from a phone app (Lovense; We-Vibe).
- Charging and run time. A longer run time means less time on a visible charger. Lovense lists up to 350 minutes of use and a 45-minute charge for Lush 4 (Lovense), and the LELO toys above list up to 2 hours.
- Storage. Make sure a toy is completely dry before you put it away. LELO notes that moisture can lead to bacterial growth and mildew (LELO). For more on materials and care, see Body-safe sex toy materials: a plain-English guide.
Practical ways to keep things quieter if you have roommates
These are general suggestions, not manufacturer claims:
- Use lower settings. Many toys have a wide intensity range, and quieter settings may be all you need.
- Muffle the sound. Bedding and blankets can dampen sound.
- Add background sound. A fan, music, or white noise can help mask a hum.
- Consider wearables. Toys designed to be worn, like Lush 4 or Jive 2, are often marketed for discretion. Check the published specs rather than relying on the marketing.
- Use the travel lock. If your toy has one, lock it when you store it (see the discreet section above).
FAQ
What is the quietest vibrator?
Among the toys we checked, LELO TIANI 3 and TIANI DUO have the lowest published maximum at 50 dB (LELO TIANI 3; LELO TIANI DUO). We haven’t measured any toy ourselves, and brands measure differently, so this is a spec comparison, not a test result.
What dB is considered a quiet vibrator?
There’s no official threshold. For reference, Lovense’s own scale puts a whisper at about 30 dB and a library at about 40 dB (Lovense). The lowest published maximum among the toys we checked is 50 dB (LELO TIANI 3 and TIANI DUO), and several LELO toys list 60 dB or less. A 10 dB increase is commonly described as sounding roughly twice as loud (U.S. National Park Service), so a 50 dB maximum is a meaningfully lower figure than a 60 dB one. Brands don’t disclose how they measure, so use these numbers to compare, not as a guarantee.
Is 60 dB loud?
Lovense’s reference scale places a library at about 40 dB and a restaurant at about 80 dB (Lovense). A 60 dB maximum falls between the two. Whether others can hear it depends on distance, walls, and background noise.
Are app-controlled vibrators quieter?
Not inherently. App control changes how you operate a toy, not how loud its motor is. Compare published dB figures where they exist.
Do “silent” vibrators exist?
Not really. Any motor makes some sound. Treat “silent” and “whisper quiet” as marketing language unless a dB figure backs them up.
