Research-based: how we put this comparison together. We haven’t tested these products hands-on. This comparison is based on what Lovense and We-Vibe publish on their own product, app, warranty, and FAQ pages as of October 8, 2026, all linked below and listed in Sources. We don’t rate things we can’t measure, like vibration “strength” or app reliability. Prices change constantly, so we’ve left them out.

Lovense and We-Vibe are two of the best-known names in app-connected toys. Both let you control a toy from your phone and hand that control to a partner, whether they’re in the same room or far away. Beyond that, the two brands take noticeably different approaches to their apps, waterproofing, and warranties.

Here’s how they compare on paper.

The short version

Choose Lovense if you want the broadest app ecosystem on paper: desktop support, music and sound sync, and toys that can control each other across distance (Lovense).

Choose We-Vibe if you want IPX7 waterproofing (listed on every We-Vibe model we checked), a 2-year warranty on the models we checked, an app you can install without creating an account, and toys designed to be worn during partnered sex (We-Vibe FAQ; We-Vibe app FAQ).

Both brands describe their toys as body-safe silicone and support long-distance control. This is a comparison of published specs, not a test.

The apps: Lovense Remote vs. the We-Vibe app

The app is the main reason most people consider either brand, so we’ll start there.

Lovense Remote

According to Lovense’s product pages, the Lovense Remote app works on iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch (iOS 14.2 and later), Android 5.0 and later with Bluetooth 4.0, Mac, and Windows PC. Windows needs a Lovense USB Bluetooth adapter. The listed features are (Lovense):

  • Local and long-distance control
  • Unlimited vibration patterns, including patterns shared by the community
  • Sync to music and sound-activated vibrations
  • Toy sync. Some toys can control each other. For example, Lovense says Nora can sync with Max 2 so “the toys will react to each other’s movements over ANY distance.”

Lovense also says Domi 2 can be used alongside other Lovense products, with the app controlling several devices at once (Lovense).

We-Vibe app

We-Vibe’s app page says the app is available for iPhone and Android and has two main sections: TOYS, for controlling your own toy, and LONG DISTANCE PLAY, for connecting with a partner and handing over control (We-Vibe). Listed features include:

  • 12 vibration patterns, plus the option to create your own
  • Separate control of each motor on multi-motor toys
  • A touch-and-move control mode where intensity follows your fingertip
  • Playlists of vibration patterns
  • In-app chat and video during long-distance play
  • Setup by scanning the barcode on the toy’s packaging

Which app approach suits you?

  • If you want many toys working together, or want to use a toy from a desktop computer, Lovense’s published feature list is broader.
  • If you want long-distance play with built-in chat and video in the same app, We-Vibe lists that directly.

Both apps connect to toys over Bluetooth. Neither brand publishes comparable reliability data, and we haven’t tested connection stability, so we don’t rank the apps on reliability. Connection quality can depend on your phone, distance, and surroundings.

A note on privacy

Any connected toy involves an app and data, and for some brands an account (We-Vibe says its app doesn’t require one; Lovense requires one for long-distance control). Before you buy either brand, read its current privacy policy and app permissions. We haven’t assessed either company’s data practices, so we don’t compare them here.

Long-distance play: what each brand supports

Long-distance control is one of the main reasons people buy an app-connected toy. Here’s what each brand says on its own pages.

Lovense. Lovense says a partner can control your toy’s strength “in real-time via app, no matter the distance” (Lovense). Both of you need a separate Lovense Remote account, and your partner doesn’t need a toy to control yours (Lovense Remote FAQ). If your partner doesn’t want to install anything, a Control Link lets someone control your toy “without downloading any software” (Lovense Control Link guide). If you both have toys, some can sync with each other, like Nora with Max 2 (Lovense).

We-Vibe. The We-Vibe app’s LONG DISTANCE PLAY section lets you connect with a partner, hand over control, and use in-app chat and video (We-Vibe). Your partner needs to download the app as well, but doesn’t need a toy, and We-Vibe says you don’t need to create an account to install the app (We-Vibe app FAQ).

In short: Lovense offers more ways to connect, including a no-download link and toy-to-toy sync. We-Vibe keeps everything, including chat and video, in one app without an account requirement. Agree with your partner in advance on when remote control is okay and how to say stop. For more couples options, see Couples' sex toys for beginners: how to choose your first toy together.

Couples and wearable picks: what each brand emphasizes

We-Vibe’s lineup leans heavily toward toys designed to be worn during partnered sex:

  • We-Vibe Sync O is a C-shaped vibrator with an O-shaped internal loop, designed for hands-free use solo or with a partner. It runs 150 minutes, charges in 90 minutes, is IPX7, and can be controlled by button, remote, or app (We-Vibe). It’s one of several current Sync models; We-Vibe also lists Sync 2, Sync Go, and Sync Lite (We-Vibe Sync 2).
  • We-Vibe Chorus has an adjustable fit and a pressure-sensitive “Squeeze” remote. We-Vibe says “the tighter you squeeze, the stronger the vibration gets.” The toy is IPX7, but We-Vibe notes the remote is “only splashproof” (We-Vibe). We-Vibe also sells a newer Chorus Pro, listed with dual clitoral motors, a Squeeze remote with haptic feedback, app control over distance, up to 120 minutes of run time, and a 2-year warranty (We-Vibe Chorus Pro).
  • We-Vibe Moxie+ is a wearable vibrator held in place in underwear by a magnetic clip, with app or remote control and up to 2 hours of run time (We-Vibe).

Lovense leans more toward long-distance and toy-to-toy interaction, like the Nora and Max 2 pairing described above (Lovense), and toys that sync to music or on-screen content. Lovense’s Nora page, for example, lists “Sync to Content” and says Nora’s vibration and rotation can “sync with what you have on screen” (Lovense). Warranty, returns, and support

Lovense: Lovense’s toys carry a one-year warranty against defects, starting from the original purchase date. TPE sleeves carry 90 days. The warranty isn’t transferable. Separately, if a product bought on lovense.com develops a fault after the one-year warranty ends, Lovense’s warranty page offers a one-time 55%-off discount on a replacement device bought on lovense.com. That’s a discount offer, not a warranty extension or a free replacement. Lovense also states that it does not offer “any kind of satisfaction guarantee” (Lovense warranty).

We-Vibe: We-Vibe’s FAQ says warranties run “1-2 years” and cover manufacturing defects only, not wear and tear, misuse, or loss. Every product page we checked (Sync O, Nova 2, Jive 2, Moxie+, Chorus, Tango X) listed 2 years. We-Vibe also says unopened items with intact hygienic seals can be returned free of charge within 30 days of delivery (We-Vibe FAQ).

On paper, We-Vibe offers the longer standard warranty for the products we checked: 2 years versus Lovense’s 1 year.

Care and compatibility

  • Lube: The toys we checked from both brands are described as body-safe silicone, some with ABS or plastic parts. We-Vibe recommends high-quality water-based lubricant (We-Vibe FAQ). Water-based lube is the standard safe choice for silicone toys. See Body-safe sex toy materials: a plain-English guide.
  • Cleaning: We-Vibe recommends cleaning with soap and water or its toy cleaner before and after every use, and says never to boil them or put them in a dishwasher (We-Vibe FAQ). Lovense recommends warm water and mild soap or a toy cleaner for Domi 2, and making sure it’s completely dry before storing it (Lovense).
  • Water: If you want a toy for the bath or shower, check the specific model. Two of the three Lovense models we checked, Nora and Domi 2, are water-resistant (IPX6, not submersible) rather than IPX7.

So which should you choose?

  • Choose Lovense if you want the broadest app ecosystem: desktop support, music and sound sync, and toys that control each other across distance.
  • Choose We-Vibe if you want IPX7 waterproofing (listed on every We-Vibe model we checked), a 2-year warranty on the models we checked, and toys designed specifically to be worn during partnered sex.
  • Choose neither, yet if you’re new to toys and app control isn’t the point. A simple button-operated toy can be an easier start. See How to choose your first vibrator: a beginner's buyer's guide.

FAQ

Can a Lovense app control a We-Vibe toy, or vice versa?

Neither brand lists the other’s toys as compatible. Lovense’s app FAQ covers only device and phone compatibility, and We-Vibe’s app FAQ lists only We-Vibe toys (Lovense Remote FAQ; We-Vibe app FAQ). Plan on using each brand’s toys with its own app.

Do I need my partner to own a toy for long-distance play?

No. With either brand, the controlling partner doesn’t need a toy. They need the brand’s app (or, for Lovense, a Control Link) (We-Vibe app FAQ; Lovense Remote FAQ; Lovense Control Link guide). See “Long-distance play” above for details.

Do I need an account?

For the We-Vibe app, no: We-Vibe says you don’t need to create an account to install it (We-Vibe app FAQ). For Lovense long-distance control, yes: Lovense says both partners need a separate Lovense Remote account. A Control Link lets someone control your toy without downloading anything (Lovense Remote FAQ; Lovense Control Link guide).

Is the Lovense app free?

Neither Lovense’s nor We-Vibe’s pages that we checked state a price for its app, so we can’t confirm either way. Check the App Store or Google Play listing for current pricing and any in-app purchases before you download.

Which brand is quieter?

We can’t fairly say. Lovense lists a minimum of 36 dB for Lush 4, while We-Vibe describes Jive 2 as “whisper quiet” without a figure. See Quiet vibrators: how to read noise specs, plus low-decibel options for how to read noise claims.

Are both brands body-safe?

Both describe their toys as body-safe silicone and phthalate-free (Lovense; We-Vibe). If you have allergies or sensitivities, check the full material list and ask a healthcare provider.
